Reading a loudspeaker datasheet
Driver datasheets contain the electrical, mechanical and acoustic parameters needed for enclosure design. The important skill is understanding which numbers describe which limitation.
Thiele/Small parameters
Fs, Vas and Qts are the core small-signal parameters used for low-frequency enclosure modelling. Re, Le, Bl, Mms, Cms and related values describe parts of the electro-mechanical system.
Excursion and thermal ratings
Xmax indicates a linear-excursion criterion, but manufacturers may define it differently. Voice-coil power ratings describe thermal tests and do not guarantee usable low-frequency output in a chosen box.
Frequency response and sensitivity
Published response curves depend on measurement conditions and baffle geometry. Sensitivity should be compared only when the reference conditions are equivalent.
